What is the Year of Eligibility Service (YOES)?

To get specific, the way we determine when an employee becomes eligible for the employER base contribution in the retirement plan is guided by Section 2.42 Year of Eligibility Service:

“Year of Eligibility Service” means any consecutive 12-month period of employment during which an Employee completes 1,000 or more Hours of Service. (see also definition Section 2.22 Hour of Service)
  • The first consecutive 12-month period to be taken into account for this purpose will be the consecutive 12-month period commencing with the Employee’s Employment or Reemployment Date.

  • The second consecutive 12-month period to be taken into account for this purpose will be the Plan Year which includes the first anniversary of the Employee’s Employment or Reemployment Date.

  • All subsequent 12-month periods to be taken into account for this purpose will correspond with Plan Years.

  • NOTE: An Employee does not complete a Year of Eligibility Service before the end of the 12-consecutive month period regardless of when during such period the Employee completes the required number of Hours of Service.

  • Notwithstanding the foregoing, an Employee who successfully completes a UU ministerial internship as determined by the Committee shall be deemed to have completed a Year of Eligibility Service.
